L’azienda La Stoppa si trova a Rivergaro, in Val Trebbia, sulle prime colline della provincia di Piacenza, nella punta Nord Ovest dell’Emilia-Romagna. Nella seconda metà del XIX secolo, l’avvocato Giancarlo Ageno scoprì la vocazione vitivinicola di questo luogo e avviò una produzione di vini da lungo invecchiamento, per la maggior parte da vitigni francesi. Nel 1973 l’azienda fu acquistata da Raffaele e Angela Pantaleoni, dal 1991 la figlia Elena la conduce affiancata da Giulio Armani, presente in azienda dal 1980, a cui negli anni si sono aggiunti altri 12 preziosi collaboratori.

La tenuta è composta da 58 ettari di cui 28 destinati a bosco e i restanti a vite. L’agricoltura è biologica e tutte le lavorazioni vengono effettuate a mano da personale interno. In cantina si usano vasche in acciaio e cemento per la fermentazione che avviene spontaneamente, senza l’aggiunta di anidride solforosa e a temperatura ambiente. Si praticano lunghe macerazioni allo scopo di estrarre tutto il possibile dall’uva e di mantenere ben distinte le caratteristiche di ogni vendemmia. Il lungo affinamento nelle botti di rovere è necessario per le uve coltivate su argille rosse molto antiche, ricche di ferro e povere di azoto e permette al vino di maturare lentamente e in modo naturale. Anche il lungo affinamento in bottiglia è necessario perchè il vino trovi il suo equilibrio e sia fedele espressione del territorio dal quale proviene.

Oggi si producono poche etichette, tutte rappresentative del luogo; Trebbiolo, Barbera e Bonarda (da vigne giovani), Macchiona (per un vino di grande longevità), Ageno (unico bianco secco aziendale dalle lunghe macerazioni), per finire con la Malvasia di Candia Aromatica. In corso c’è un progetto di produzione di vino in Cile, che prende il nome di Pisador, da uve Paìs, vigne ultracentenarie nella valle del Maule, a 400 km a sud di Santiago.

In ultimo verso i miei clienti, applicando prezzi corretti, considerati a volte bassi per la dedizione, l’impegno e il tempo, ma sufficienti per pagare i costi, fare investimenti e proseguire con i progetti aziendali.

La cultura è l'unico bene dell'umanità che, diviso fra tutti, anziché diminuire, diventa più grande. Così scriveva Hans-Georg Gadamer, filosofo tedesco. E’ un concetto che metto in pratica ogni giorno, condividendo quel poco che so con tutti coloro che hanno voglia di ascoltare, dai visitatori in azienda, ai colleghi, agli stagisti che prendiamo ogni anno in vendemmia, ai viticoltori cileni che hanno un tesoro tra le mani ma nessuno glielo ha mai detto… ma questa è un’altra storia, alle nostre latitudini ma in un altro emisfero…
