Die Geschichte des Zuckerrohrs, seines Anbaus und seiner Destillation in Guyana ist alt und faszinierend. Vor der Ankunft der Menschen aus dem Westen war das Gebiet größtenteils von den Wassern des Atlantiks bedeckt; es waren die Holländer, die es im 17. Jahrhundert dank der bereits im Mutterland angewandten Poldertechnik urbar und kultivierbar machten, und es waren wiederum die Holländer, die Ende desselben Jahrhunderts das erste Zuckerrohr nach Guyana brachten und an den Ufern des Demerara-Flusses anpflanzten (von dem die Sorte ihren Namen erhielt). Das Zuckerrohr akklimatisierte sich perfekt und profitierte stark von den Nährstoffen, die das dem Meer abgerungene Land lieferte. Es waren jedoch die Briten mit ihrem unglaublichen Hunger nach Rum, die mit der Destillation begannen. Und die Geschichte des Zuckerrohrs in Guyana geht Hand in Hand mit der Geschichte von Demerara Distillers, dem Hersteller von El Dorado Rum.

Die Blended in the Barrel-Serie von El Dorado zeichnet sich durch eine revolutionäre und einzigartige Blending-Methode aus: Während der Blend traditionell aus verschiedenen Fässern mit unterschiedlichen Reifezeiten hergestellt wird, arbeitet Sharon Sue-Hang-Baksh, Master Blender bei Demerara Distillers, hier mit frisch destillierten Rumsorten, die dann gemeinsam im selben Fass gereift werden. In einer so komplexen und weitläufigen Welt wie der Welt des Rums können diese Veröffentlichungen als eine einzigartige Zäsur und Neuheit in der Welt der Zuckerrohrspirituosen bezeichnet werden. Diese Freigabe ist eine Mischung aus Rumsorten, die in der Savalle-Destillationskolonne von Uitvlugt destilliert wurden, und Rumsorten, die in der Coffey-Destillationskolonne der Enmore-Brennerei in Holz destilliert wurden. Der Blend wird unmittelbar nach der Destillation hergestellt und reift über 11 Jahre lang im tropischen Klima von Guyana in ehemaligen Bourbonfässern, ohne dass er gefiltert wird. Ein Rum von großer Ausgewogenheit.
